Accessibility

The internet can be a great enabler and source of freedom for any type of users. As such, the value of OpenAx to our users depends on its accessibility.

This is an area of importance for OpenAx. In keeping with our public-service remit, and our obligations under the Equality Act, we are committed to ensuring that OpenAx users can access our website as reasonably as possible.

We aim for a consistently high level of usability for our entire audience across all of our websites, following best-practice accessibility guidelines. We engage with disabled, non-disabled and elderly people throughout website development to fully understand user requirements and ensure we produce sites that meet these.

Accessibility

OpenAX is committed to allowing all web users access to the website, while providing a visually rich user experience.

Web standard

OpenAX follows W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 standards to AA level. All pages use valid, structured, semantic HTML5. Visual styling is provided by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and enhanced user interaction is provided by JavaScript.

OpenAX strives to be fully accessible for users without CSS or JavaScript. Where images are used to show relevant textual content, a text-based alternative is provided.

Keyboard navigation

OpenAX supports standard tab-based keyboard navigation.

Font sizes

Newer browsers support either text resizing or page zooming, to allow users to increase the size of essential page content.

Once text sizing or zoom level has been selected, it is recommended the user refreshes the browser window, as some headings will not resize until this has been done.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 11:

Press the Alt key to display the menu bar o Tap or click View, and then tap or click Text size

Choose to make text larger or smaller than the size on the screen

Mozilla Firefox:

On the menu at the top, click View, then go to Zoom.

Select Zoom Text Only. This makes the controls only change the size of text; not images.

Apple Safari (OS X):

To enlarge the entire page, choose View Zoom In, or press Command (⌘)-Plus (+)

To enlarge only the text, choose View Zoom Text Only, and then choose View Zoom In

Chrome:

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.

Select Settings.

Click Show advanced settings.

In the "Web Content" section, use the "Font size" drop-down menu to make adjustments.

Text background colors

As OpenAx follows web standards, it is possible to override our provided colour scheme with one of your own.
